They're great. I volunteered at an Animal Rescue facility and on the premises is a Doggy Gym and Day Spa, separate from the Animal Rescue facility.

Customers bring their dogs for the Day, or a few hours, some leave the dogs for the entire day, while their "human," is at work or running errands.

The "Doggy Day Spa," is private and not part of the Animal Rescue faclity.

You have to fund the Day Spa yourself.
References :
I don't think pets need a day spa. I guarantee there are over a million better uses for money than a pet day spa. Especially if you are trying to make a difference in the world. Maybe you could start a spade/neutering program or a vaccination program. For money you could hit up private companies that deal with pets and local citizens. You could also seek grants or government funds. Even some type of adoption program to help find homes for the animals would be good.

After reading NewYorkGirl, maybe you could run a separate day spa to finance a program like I mentioned above. Charge people to bring their dogs in and then use that to help the animal rescue animals. It would be a win win situation.
References :
Me.
